With Summer officially here there are extra things that you can do to get your body ready for the sun, water and of course, those swimsuits! Besides finding the perfect suit and coverup for the summer months (of course I’ve been on the hunt), I’ve decided to incorporate a few new summer-ready routines at 39, I know, better late than never! In addition to my workout routine which I shared about it in this post. I’ve also added dry brushing for smoother and brighter skin. I got a spray tan and purchased an at home tanning option to continue the glow because all my Seattle peeps know that the sun doesn’t come out until after the 4th of July! Last but not least, I tried waxing to get rid of that unwanted hair.
Why Waxing?
Why not has actually been my new question. I am wondering why I waited so long! I love that I don’t have to shave as it takes 1-2 weeks for any growth to start following your appointment. I’ve also learned the more consistently you wax the longer it takes to grow back and the finer and sparser, making it easier to maintain in the future. I’ve even heard that some no longer get hair growth in areas they’ve waxed, doesn’t that sound amazing?! Life is already busy enough during the summer, who am I kidding really any time of year, so it’s nice to not have to worry about shaving and cross that off my to-do list.
Why Waxing The City?
I had been looking into this company for a while now and waxing in general but just hadn’t taken the plunge until now! Some of the things that I personally looked for was a convenient location, one that had amazing reviews (a no-brainer, right!), and a welcoming atmosphere and Cerologist that would make getting a Brazilian feel comfortable because let’s face it, this isn’t the most comfortable situation. I really loved walking into the Waxing The City in Issaquah, WA. The front desk receptionist was smiley and friendly and the decor is fresh with a modern vibe. There was some brief paperwork and then I was greeted by my Cerologist (that’s what they call their licensed estheticians) and she took me to our room to explained the process.
The room was very clean and sterile yet continued with the inviting decor that you experienced in the lobby. There was even an outlet to charge your phone during your appointment! I was lucky to have Ashley as my waxing expert. She is definitely good at what she does. Ashley was able to make me feel comfortable by exuding limitless enthusiasm and knowledge of her art. During my waxing, she answered all my questions and also shared her recommendations on skin care which included exfoliating, how to avoid ingrown hairs, and what product would be best for me! It was really nice because there were no awkward moments that you might worry about and she took her time to not rush the process.
FAQ’s
Does it hurt?
Yes, it hurts. Everyone’s pain tolerance is different and it also depends on what part of the body you are waxing. You can take an ibuprofen 30 minutes prior to your appointment to help alleviate some of the pain. They also sell a Pre-Wax Serum that helps numb the area and can be put on 5 minutes ahead of time. I’ve also been told the more you do it the less it hurts! My second childbirth wasn’t as painful as the first one so maybe it’s true, I’ll have to see!
What kind of wax do they use?
The science geek in me loved learning about the wax they use called Ceranaranja. It’s a custom-formulated hard wax made in Spain for Waxing The City. I was told how this special wax, shrink-wraps around the hair instead of adhering to your skin to makes the entire waxing experience much more comfortable! I love the idea of a more comfortable experience!
How long does your hair have to be?
Ashley recommends as long as a grain of rice, which is typically 2-4 weeks of growth. Longer hair actually means a smoother wax which is another great reason to let it grow a bit more.
What should I do about ingrown hairs/bumps?
I learned that exfoliating is a great way to help prevent ingrown hairs. They sell some amazing products to help with this including exfoliating gloves as well as an exclusive maintenance kit. They also recommended this product, which you can buy there as well. I used it after and would definitely buy again.
How much does it cost?
It depends on the location and service but the pricing can range from $25 to $75. They also have a great perk called the BlackBook that is a membership option and the value is really great especially if you are a new client. Speaking of that, don’t forget that First Time Clients get 50% off any service! You can conveniently schedule your service at waxingthecity.com.
I’m sure you have more questions than this. You can learn more about Waxing The City and find more FAQ’s answered here.
